The singer, who had recently concluded his months-long pan-India Dil-Luminati tour, took to social media and posted glimpses of his meeting with the PM

Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the first time and termed the meeting a fantastic start to 2025. The singer, who had recently concluded his months-long pan-India Dil-Luminati tour, took to social media and posted glimpses of his meeting with the PM.

“A fantastic start to 2025. A memorable meeting with PM @narendramodi ji. We talked about a lot of things, including music of course!,” Dosanjh wrote on X and shared some pictures where he is seen wearing a black suit with a black turban.

The PM also responded to Dosanjh’s X post and wrote, “A great interaction with Diljit Dosanjh! He’s truly multifaceted, blending talent and tradition. We connected over music, culture and more…”

In the video shared by Dosanjh, he is seen entering a room with a bouquet of flowers, which he then hands over to the Prime Minister.

Before New Orleans attack, ISIS-inspired driver in video said ‘he planned to kill own family’

Jabbar exploded Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas just hours after a man drove a truck into crowds of New Year’s Day revelers in New Orleans, killing 15

A Tesla Cybertruck exploded in flames outside the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Thursday, killing the driver and injuring seven others.

The incident occurred just hours after a man drove a truck into crowds of New Year’s Day revelers in New Orleans, killing 15. The FBI–which is leading the New Orleans attack investigation–has identified the attacker as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US citizen from Texas.

Jabbar had posted videos indicating that he was inspired by ISIS before he ploughed New Year’s eve revellers in a popular area.

Officials told CNN that the suspect, obscured by darkness in the video, also spoke about his divorce and plans to gather his family for a “celebration” with the intent of killing them. He later changed his plans and said that he joined ISIS, CNN reported.

“Mere hours before the attack, he posted videos on social media indicating that inspired by ISIS, expressing a desire to kill,” Joe Biden said in an address to the nation from the presidential retreat of Camp David in the state of Maryland where he is spending the rest of the week.

Four years ago, in a promotional video, Jabbar described himself as born and reared in Beaumont, a city about 80 miles (130 km) east of Houston. He said he spent 10 years in the US military as a human resources and IT specialist.

According to the Pentagon he served more than 10 years in the military as a human resource specialist and an IT specialist and was deployed to Afghanistan from 2009 to 2010.

An ISIS flag was found in the vehicle, the FBI said, adding, it was working to determine the subject’s potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organisations.

Investigations are on into possible links between this attack and the explosion of a Tesla cyber-truck outside a Trump organisation property in Las Vegas, which left several people injured.

Elon Musk, Tesla owner and a staunch Trump ally, indicated in a post on X, previously called Twitter, there was a link. “Appears likely to be an act of terrorism. Both this Cybertruck and the F-150 suicide bomb in New Orleans were rented from Turo (Turo). Perhaps they are linked in some way.” He was referring to Turo, an app that allows car owners to rent out their vehicles much in the same way as AirBnb does for homeowners.

“I directed my team to make sure every resource, every resource, is made available to federal, state and local law enforcement to complete the investigation in New Orleans quickly, and to make sure there is no remaining threat to the American people,” Biden said in his address.

Houthis …….. Unstoppable(Maj Gen Harvijay Singh, SM)

Houthis …….. Unstoppable

(Maj Gen Harvijay Singh, SM)
Yemen has faced a prolonged civil war (since 2014) and remains extremely poor and deprived of even the most basic resources like food and drinking water. The Houthis made up of Zaydi Shias have been a central player in Yemen’s civil war. They are just around 200,000 strong.
Since 2015, they are up against a Saudi led coalition whose members are Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE),
Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Sudan. And, on the sly USA and UK.
In addition, a coalition, known as Op Prosperity Guardian, announced in Dec 2023 includes the United States, United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Seychelles, and Spain.
Ek machharr sala aadmi ko ……….. though a serious matter, the teenie weenie Houthis are causing quite a sting.
The Houthis apparently get support from Iran; their martial culture rooted in guerrilla warfare makes them
intimidating. The Houthis attacks on the Red Sea and Israel began around Oct 2023 when they fired three cruise missiles and several drones targeting Israel followed by periodically shooting down US Drones, attacks on commercial shipping and naval warships in the Red Sea and followed by more attacks on Israel.
The Houthis claim to have downed 12 US MQ – 9 Reaper Drones so far – each estimated to be costing $32 million. They also claim to have shot a US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet Fighter Aircraft on 22 Dec 2024 costing about $ 66.9 million. The Americans however claim to have lost it in friendly fire. Simply stated: lost in action against the Houthis.
The real and more profound impact is of the Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. Seaborne freight rates due to diversions across the Cape of Good Hope (around Africa) and high rates of insurance are skyrocketing. Economists predict that this could push up prices globally by about 0.5 Percent Points (p.p) and potentially reduce GDP growth by 0.9 p.p in Europe, 0.6 p.p in United States, and 0.4 p.p globally in 2024. A real case of Geoeconomics shaping global political and economic dynamics. Geoeconomics entered the lexicon in 1990 with an article by Edward Luttwak, which argued that following the Cold War, the importance of military power was giving way to geoeconomic power.
Burkan-2H, a modified version of the Iranian Qiam-1 missile, is one of the key ballistic missiles used by the Houthis. Despite their limited resources, they have developed their own capabilities to modify and extend the range of these missiles. The Houthis use the long-range Sammad – 3 and Jaffa Drone (designed to evade advanced defence systems like the Iron Dome). Notably, these are capabilities which many nation-states struggle to attain The most recent drone attack by the Houthis on Israel was on 25 Dec – two drones, one targeting Tel Aviv and the other Ashkelon, a key industrial zone of the Israeli Defence Forces. These drones fly from Yemen to Israel covering
over 2000 Kms over intensely hostile Air Defence regions of the Red Sea or Saudi Arabia and then hoodwink the sophisticated Israeli Air Defence Systems ……… like it or not, the training and skills of the Houthis are laudable.
Breaking News Today: Yemen Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for a missile attack that targeted the Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv. Their spokesman has stated that the Iron Dome failed to intercept the missile, causing injuries and airport shutdown. Israel claims that the missile was intercepted and that the airport reopened after a 30-minute shutdown. The CNN TV showed videos of sirens blaring and citizens running to reach bomb shelters.
The night-time monster under our beds has transformed into the air raid siren. For half of Israel’s population living in or near the country’s Centre, three such sirens have jolted us awake in the past week. We remember the times: 1:44 a.m., 2:36 a.m., and 3:44 a.m.
The last interception was successful; the first two were not. I visited what remains of the Ramat Efal School, where a ballistic missile demolished an entire building. Israel is living in a reality of miracles. Had children been in that building, even in a bomb shelter, the outcome could have been a mass casualty event. Just a day later, another ballistic missile struck a playground situated between buildings in a shared Arab-Jewish neighbourhood. A few meters in any direction, and the casualties could have been devastating. Gil Lewinsky, The Times of Israel.
Israeli response to these attacks – we will hunt down all the Houthi leaders, hit them as we have done elsewhere ……
a new Geo……. lexicon on the way?

Pakistan’s Punjab govt opens Bhagat Singh Gallery at historical Poonch House to tourists

The gallery houses historical documents, including pictures, letters, newspapers, details of trial and other memorial articles related to his life and freedom struggle

Pakistan’s Punjab government has opened to tourists the Bhagat Singh Gallery at the historical Poonch House here, where the independent freedom fighter’s trial was conducted some 93 years ago.

The gallery houses historical documents, including pictures, letters, newspapers, details of trial and other memorial articles related to his life and freedom struggle.

Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman inaugurated the gallery on Monday.

“Tourists will have access to the gallery under an agreement between the departments of industry, commerce and tourism of the Punjab government,” Zaman said, adding that the historical building of Poonch House has been restored to its original form.

“The gallery showcases Bhagat Singh’s struggle for independence,” he said.

Pakistan’s Punjab Archives Department in 2018 for the first time had displayed some records of the legendary freedom fighter’s case file, including his execution certificate, letters, photographs and newspaper clippings and other material.

Singh, 23, was hanged by British rulers on March 23, 1931 in Lahore, after being tried under charges for hatching a conspiracy against the colonial government.

The case was filed against Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru for allegedly killing British police officer John P Saunders.

The record which was put on display also included a request of Singh for providing the order of court dated August 27, 1930, and his petition dated May 31, 1929, for the interview of his father.

It also contained a petition of his father, Sardar Kishan Singh, against the death sentence of his son and the certificate/execution of his death in Lahore district jail by the superintendent of jail dated March 23, 1931.

It also includes a petition of Singh for allowing him daily newspapers and books, and some other records related to the manifesto of the Naujawan Bharat Sabha Lahore by BC Vohra and several clippings of the daily VIRBHARAT etc.

One document about the execution of the death sentence of Singh says: “I (superintendent of the jail) hereby certify that the sentence of death passed on Bhagat Singh has been duly executed and that the said Bhagat Singh was accordingly hanged by neck till he was dead at Lahore Jail on 9 pm Monday the 23rd day of March 1931. The body was not taken down until life was ascertained by a medical officer to be extinct; and that no accident, error or other misadventure occurred.”

The revolutionary significantly did not end each application with the customary ‘yours truly’ or ‘obediently’ and instead he chose the words “Yours etc. etc.” showing his resilience in the face of tyranny.

The case files also contain documents showing how the British India police and agencies had busted the team of Singh comprising around 24 to 25 members from different parts of India and established their links to the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army and the Naujawan Bharat Sabha.

Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation chairman Advocate Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi said on Tuesday that since the Punjab government has opened the Bhagat Singh Gallery, it should also rename Shadman Chowk (where he was hanged) after him. “We will continue pressing the government for this,” he added.

Diljit Dosanjh dedicates Guwahati concert to Manmohan Singh

The singer-actor on Instagram shares a video from Sunday’s concert in which he speaks about the lessons he believes people should learn from Singh

Punjabi singing sensation Diljit Dosanjh dedicated his concert to former prime minister Manmohan Singh, who died on the night of December 26.

The singer-actor on Instagram shared a video from Sunday’s concert in which he spoke about the lessons he believes people should learn from Singh.

“Today’s Concert is dedicated to Dr Manmohan Singh Ji. DIL-LUMINATI TOUR Year 24,” he captioned the post.

In the clip, Dosanjh recalled how Singh would never speak ill about anyone even if someone did so towards him.

“He lived a very simple life. If I look at the journey of his life, it was so simple. Even if someone talked ill about him, he never reverted in the same manner,” he is heard saying in the video.

“Have you ever seen those Lok Sabha sessions? Our politicians fight as if they are nursery kids… But something that we should learn from Dr Manmohan Singh ji is that he never responded in the same manner,” he added.

Singh, the architect of India’s economic reforms and who served as the 13th Prime Minister of India between 2004 and 2014, died last week at the age of 92.

Dosanjh, 40, further mentioned the words which Singh would speak and said everyone including him should learn from him.

“He would often say ‘Hazaaron jawabon se meri khamoshi achhi, na jaane kitne sawalon ki aabroo dhak leti hai’ (‘My silence is better than a thousand answers, it has saved the grace of many questions’) and it is something the youth needs to learn from him, even I do. We should focus on our goals even if people speak bad about us and try to distract us,” he said.

“Today, I bow my head in front of a man who loved his country and spent his life serving it,” he added.

The singer will next perform in Ludhiana on December 31 as part of his ‘Dil-Luminati India Tour’.

Russian missile, drone attack on Ukraine hits multiple targets, including Kyiv

Ukraine has lost, approximately, half of its energy infrastructure to the war as relentless attacks from Russia continue

Russia launched an aerial attack on Ukraine on Tuesday, striking the capital and other regions with multiple missiles and drones.

Ukraine’s air force reported a ballistic missile threat at 3 am (0100 GMT), with at least two explosions heard in Kyiv minutes later. Another missile alert was issued at 8 am followed by at least one explosion in the city. Missile debris fell in the Darnytskyi district of the capital with no reports of casualties or damage, the local administration said.

Authorities in the northeastern Sumy region reported strikes near the city of Shostka, where the mayor, Mykola Noha, said 12 residential buildings had been damaged as well as two educational facilities. He said some “social infrastructure objects” were destroyed, without providing detail.

The air force also reported missiles and drones targeting several other regions of Ukraine.

Around half of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has been destroyed during the war, and rolling electricity blackouts are common and widespread.

Kyiv’s Western allies have provided air defence systems to help Ukraine protect critical infrastructure, but Russia has sought to overwhelm its air defences with combined strikes involving large numbers of missiles and drones.

Russian attacks come as uncertainty looms over the course of the nearly three-year conflict. US President-elect Donald Trump, who takes office next month, has vowed to end the war and has thrown into doubt whether vital US military support for Kyiv will continue.

On Monday, President Joe Biden announced that the United States will send an additional USD 2.5 billion in weapons to Ukraine as his administration works quickly to spend all the money it has available to help Kyiv fight off Russia before Trump takes office.

Russia has held the initiative this year as its military has steadily rammed through Ukrainian defences in the east in a series of slow but steady offensives.
