A clash involving a senior Army officer and a government official regarding the Line of Control (LoC) fencing project has caused a stir on social media, drawing significant attention from military veterans and defense enthusiasts. The incident allegedly involved the assault of Colonel Ankush Chaudhary, the Commanding Officer of an engineer regiment, by Assistant Defence Estate Officer (ADEO) Triyam Singh.

Colonel Chaudhary was responsible for supervising a critical LoC fencing initiative following a recent infiltration attack in Pahalgam. He reportedly approached ADEO Singh to secure necessary approvals for the project, which is part of enhanced border security efforts in the region. When ADEO Singh declined to sign the vital board proceedings and approve the land-use documentation, Colonel Chaudhary visited Singh’s office in person to discuss the matter.

Reports indicate that the meeting escalated into a confrontation when ADEO Singh allegedly assaulted the Army officer. In a show of support for their Commanding Officer, soldiers from the engineer regiment reportedly retaliated against the official. This incident has sparked a broader discussion about the behavior of civil officials involved in defense land matters and the difficulties faced in executing urgent military infrastructure projects.

Military veterans and current personnel have expressed solidarity with Colonel Chaudhary and his soldiers, emphasizing the deep emotional and professional ties between commanding officers and their troops. Former Northern Army Commander Lt Gen (Retd) KJS Dhillon commented, “For the soldiers, CO is next only to God. Touching a CO has consequences. A CO has responsibility to protect his jawans and he will lay down his life doing so, and vice versa for the jawans.”

The incident was brought to light by retired Army officer Sushil Singh Sheoran on the social media platform X. Sheoran accused the Defence Estate Office (DEO) of corruption and obstruction, stating, “The Defence Estate Office within the Ministry of Defence is known for its corruption and often tries to stall projects in exchange for bribes.”

While the Ministry of Defence has yet to release an official statement, the incident has amplified calls for systemic reforms in the Defence Estate management system and improved civil-military coordination in sensitive operational areas.

Family Trifecta: 3 officers in Army, Navy, IAF

DEHRADUN: In a proud moment steeped in tradition and service, a Bengaluru-based family with deep roots in India’s defence services witnessed its youngest member don the Indian Army uniform at the Indian Military Academy on Saturday. The occasion marked a milestone for Indian Air Force Air Commodore Vasant Navad, currently serving at the Integrated Defence Staff in Delhi, as he watched his younger son, Anmol Navad, join the ranks of the Indian Army as a commissioned officer.

“These two individuals constantly inspired me to do something meaningful for the nation – something unique and challenging,” said newly commissioned Lieutenant Anmol Navad. “My father is my source of inspiration, and my brother remains a rock-solid guiding pillar. Defence is where I truly belong.”

Asked about the unique roles each member of his family will play in safeguarding the nation, Air Commodore Vasant Navad emphasised the critical coordination required among the three armed services to achieve victory, similar to the one during Operation Sindoor.

All set to join the Infantry Regiment of the Indian Army, Anmol shared his passion for squash and running – the latter, he said, gives him a true adrenaline rush. “Running pushes you beyond your limits, and that’s where the sense of achievement lies. It was one of the reasons I was drawn to the National Defence Academy.”

Reflecting on his time at the IMA, he recalled the Bhadraj camp in the Mussoorie hills as one of the most challenging parts of his training. Anmol’s maternal grandfather, a decorated officer in the Territorial Army and recipient of the President’s Medal, also embodied the family’s legacy of service.

Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, conducted an in-depth review of the security situation in North Kashmir on June 11, 2025. The visit marked one of his key field engagements since assuming charge in April 2025, following a distinguished career that includes serving as Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy). During the visit, he toured formations and units of the Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo), assessing ongoing operations and preparedness in one of the most sensitive regions along the Line of Control.

The General reviewed the progress of Operation All-Out, a comprehensive multi-agency initiative that was launched in response to the 2016 unrest following the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. The operation has led to the neutralization of over 60 militant hideouts and the seizure of a large cache of arms and ammunition. It has also marked a strategic evolution in counter-insurgency doctrine, emphasizing synergy between military action and civilian engagement. Interacting with troops on the ground, Lt Gen Sharma lauded their dedication and sacrifices in preserving national integrity. He expressed appreciation for the tireless efforts of the units in combating both conventional and asymmetric threats. He also emphasized the importance of adapting to evolving security challenges while upholding the values and professionalism of the Indian Army. Lt Gen Sharma also took stock of developmental and humanitarian initiatives under Operation Sadbhavana, the Army’s flagship outreach program in Jammu and Kashmir since 1998. These initiatives, which include healthcare camps, infrastructure support, model villages, and local youth engagement through sports events such as the Kashmir Premier League, have reportedly received widespread community support, with approval ratings reaching 70% in some areas. The visit reaffirmed the Army’s dual focus on maintaining robust counter-insurgency capabilities and fostering local goodwill through development and confidence-building measures. Under Lt Gen Sharma’s leadership, the Northern Command is expected to reinforce these priorities in its mission to secure peace and stability in the region.

Doda, Updated At : 10:45 PM Jun 15, 2025 IST

In a step towards reviving adventure tourism and promoting indigenous games among the youth, the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education (DOSPE), University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Indian Army, organised a ten-day sports camp at the Bhadarwah Campus in Doda district.

The joint initiative came after recent tensions in the region following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which adversely impacted tourism and youth activities. The initiative featured various traditional and modern games, providing young participants with a valuable opportunity to explore their talents and stay engaged in constructive activities.

Events included athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, and wrestling, drawing enthusiastic participation from both students and local youth.

Dr Dawood Baba, Director of DOSPE, Jammu University, said, “The camp aimed to primarily help revive adventure tourism in Bhadarwah Valley, which was badly affected due to the recent tensions after the Pahalgam attack. Besides, local rural games like kho-kho, kabaddi, wrestling, volleyball, and athletics will also be promoted on a larger platform.” “This is not just about sports; it’s about healing, rebuilding trust, and giving the youth of Jammu & Kashmir a platform to express themselves positively,” Dawood said.

He added that the initiative’s objective was to take students beyond the boundaries of the classroom and theory, discover hidden talent and nurture it through practical exposure. “This camp is an important component of physiological development. We aim to bring students out of their four walls and beyond bookish learning, so they can gain real-life experience and grow holistically,” he said.

Colonel Yogesh Chouhan, Commanding Officer, 4 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to youth empowerment and said, “The Army is always there to help youth in whatever way we can. Our goal is to build trust and provide growth opportunities.”

Zehra Malik, a student participant, said, “I always wanted a platform to show my talent in athletics, and this event made it possible. It’s not just about winning, but the confidence we gain and the unity we feel here. These outdoor activities help us connect with nature and improve our mental strength. It’s a refreshing break from regular classes,” she said.

Arif Haleem Khateeb, External Relations Officer of Bhaderwah Campus, appreciated the Army’s dedicated efforts in shaping the future of the youth through such impactful initiatives. He highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration in creating a well-rounded and resilient generation through platforms that blend sports, education, and civic responsibility.
