Tributes paid to Shopian martyrs

The Army today paid befitting tributes to two of its soldiers who were killed in an anti-militancy operation in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.In a solemn ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantonment, Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks, paid homage to the soldiers.Representatives and officials of the state government and other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyrs, the defence spokesman said.The two slain soldiers were identified as Sepoy Ilayaraja P of Kandani Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu, and Sepoy Gawai Sumedh Waman of Akola, Maharashtra.Sepoy Waman, 25, had joined the Army in 2011 and is survived by his parents, brother and a sister while coming from Kandani village, Sepoy Ilayaraja P, 25, had donned the uniform in 2012. He is survived by his parents, wife and a sister.The mortal remains of the two slain soldiers were flown to their native places for the last rites.

Last salute to JCO

Tributes were also paid to Naib Subedar Jagram Singh Tomar, 42, who was killed when the Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked firing at the Line of Control in Poonch district on Saturday. Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, Naib Subedar Tomar is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. The mortal remains of the slain soldier has been flown to his native places for the last rites.
