The Army today paid befitting tributes to two soldiers who were killed in a militant ambush at Qazigund along the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Saturday.In a solemn ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar, senior officials from other security forces and civil administration, including the DGP, joined Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Chinar Corps Commander, and all ranks in paying homage to the two slain soldiers, an Army spokesman said.Naik Dipak Kumar Maity and Gunner (Operator) Manivannan G were killed after their convoy which was on way from Jammu to Srinagar came under heavy fire from militants in the Lower Munda area, around 85 km south of the summer capital. The Hizbul Mujahideen had claimed responsibility for the attack.Naik Maity, 43, had joined the Army in 1997 and hailed from West Bengal. Manivannan, 25, hailed from Thiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. The mortal remains of the soldiers will be flown for last rites with full military honours, he said. “In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved families.” — TNS
