HS Phoolka of the AAP will be the leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly while Sukhpal Khaira will be the chief whip. The decision was taken at a party meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Dr Baljinder Kaur, head of the women wing of AAP and Talwandi Sabo MLA proposed Phoolka’s name. Phoolka later proposed Khaira’s name as the chief whip of the party. Bains brothers also participated in the meeting.The decision was taken at the political affairs committee meeting at party chief Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in Delhi today on the basis of opinion conveyed by the 22 newly-elected MLAs of the AAP-Lok Insaf Party alliance.All 22 MLAs who constitute the Opposition had been asked to submit their views in writing in one week to the alliance, Phoolka said.“PAC affirmed the opinion of the newly-elected MLAs who had met earlier. The decision was unanimous,” said Phoolka who is likely to take oath along with his colleagues on Monday.The Supreme Court lawyer who is known for his fight to seek justice for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Phoolka has won from Dakha constituency in Ludhiana. He defeated his nearest rival Akali candidate Manpreet Singh Ayali by 4,169 votes.
