An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in forest area of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, army said here.Security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in the forest area of Kupwara on Sunday morning following information about the presence of militants in the area, an army official said.

He said some gunshots were exchanged at the start of the operation which was continuing when the reports last came in.Further details were awaited, he added. PTI
