Cong seeks Parrikar’s resignation

Congress leaders from the district held a protest outside the office of the district administration over the issue of suicide of an ex-serviceman and the post-incident detention of his family and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi by the Delhi police.Led by Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, the members demanded resignation of the Union Defence Minister for failing to properly implement One Rank One Pension (OROP). “Congress party stands with the family of Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal, who committed suicide in Delhi over the OROP issue,” he said.Lambasting the PM Narendra Modi-led Union Government, the Jalandhar MP said, “The veteran soldiers of country are feeling betrayed and are forced to take these extreme steps to get their rights. On top of that, the way the Delhi police behaved with the family of Ram Kishan Grewal is highly objectionable. The Modi government must apologise for making the family of a soldier suffer.”Prominent among others present were PPCC general secretary Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, DCC president Rajinder Beri, PPCC secretaries Surinder Chaudhary, Rajkumar Hans, Manjit Saroya, PPCC spokesman Navjot Dahiya, councillor Surinder Kaur, and other leaders including Capt Harminder Singh, Bawa Henry, Amrit Khosla and Sukhraj Kaur Dhillon.In Kapurthala, district president Joginder Singh Mann, Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjit Singh, Sultanpur Lodhi MLA Navtej SIngh Cheema were among those who participated in the protest. An effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was burnt and slogans were raised. In Nawanshahr district president Satvir Singh, district mahila president Jatinder Kaur Monga, SC Cell leader Raj Kumar Sabharwal, SC Cell district president Sukhi Ram and youth leader Rajwinder Singh Lucky held a protest on the issue.
